This is the pencil art for "A Wilting Memory". A lot of the texture in the picture was from the smudgy pencil art I scanned in. It creates an immediate and natural texture. I did some minor editing with stamp and stretch to fill in the upper part of the picture with the pencil smudges.
and only a year or so later you finally post this piece!
I dunno what it is, but I somehow love the pencils more than the completed version... course I prefer sketches over completed works most of the time.

For this is I used pencil. Since I'm left handed, I smudge the lines all over the place; so I don't do it all the time. For this piece in particular where I was needing some grit it helped! I haven't used an inking pen in about a year. I am trying to move onto brushes if I ink anything. They achieve dynamic strokes easier and they are a lot of fun until you splatter ink on one of your characters faces!
Oh, gosh, honestly. You achieve the PERFECT picture hoping that darkening it's lines with help a bit. . . next thing you know you've got scragly marks and ink blots all over the place.
I hate to say it -- cuz I know how it feels to have a good sketch, work for hours upon hours to really make it tight and finished, but -- I like this version more than the finished one. Very messy, very strong lines, very yum :9
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
